Boyer, two other local drivers claim victories at Elk Creek

ELK CREEK – Local drivers were in the spotlight again at Elk Creek Dragway June 18, winning three of the five classes.
Gary Boyer of Independence won the Super Pro-Pro-Line Performance class in his 1967 Chevy Camaro, turning 117.40 mph to beat another Grayson County driver, Jim “Bo” Sells of Troutdale, who drove his 1972 Plymouth Duster to a speed of 95.41 mph.
First-place in the Footbrake class went to Terry Stone of  Dante, Va., in a Chevy Nova. He had a speed of 89.25 mph to beat runner-up Kevin Flahart of Zionville, N.C., with a speed of 83.37 mph.
Jason Halsey of Independence  got his second win in a row in the Junior Dragster-Virginia Laser Corp. class. He posted 70.60 mph to beat Savannah Baker of Princeton, W. Va., with a speed of 59.13 mph.
Dale Waller of Fries rattled the windows to win the Motorcycle class with a speed of 109.42 mph to beat Bill Maxwell of West Jefferson, N.C., with a speed of 102.10 mph.
Wayne Horton of Hillsville won the ECD Top 16 class with Bobby Hash of Independence finishing second.
