Carroll County Genealogy Club update

HILLVILLE -- Eight people took advantage of the extended hours that the Clerk’s office was open July 18. The genealogy club wishes to thank the Clerk and her staff for their help in researching family history.

The library opening on the first Sunday of each month continues to be a success. The next Sunday opening will be Aug. 5 from 1- 4 p.m. The club library continues to be open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; however, the library will be closed Sept. 2, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

The next meeting of the Carroll County Genealogy Club will be Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in the club room in the Historic Courthouse in Hillsville.

Upcoming family reunions:
Aug. 4, the Andrew Nester-Vincent Largen 33rd reunion will be held at the Laurel Fork Community Building at 10 a.m. Please bring covered dish.

Aug. 5, the 21st annual Smith reunion will be held at the Carroll County Recreation Park for descendants of Lewis and Sarah Holderfield Smith. All descendants and friends are invited to attend and bring a covered dish. Lunch will be served at noon or shortly after.

Aug. 12, Patterson/Crawford reunion, 4471 Coal Creek Road, Galax, covered dish, eat at 12:30 p.m.

Aug. 19, Worrell reunion at 4471 Coal Creek Road, Galax, covered dish, eat at 12:30 p.m.

Sept. 2, the Marshall Family Reunion will be held at Marshall Park on Panther Creek Road in Dugspur, covered dish lunch with activities beginning at 10 am.

The Marshall Golf Tournament is Saturday, Sept. 1 at Draper Valley Golf Course. Email blovern@suddenlink.com if you want to participate.
