A driver was trapped inside her car last Wednesday after it ran off the road, down an embankment and came to rest on its side against a camper. State Trooper Jessie Tilson said a 2011 KIA, operated by Anita Simpson, 57, of Stevensville, Md., ran off Pleasant Grove Road about 11:30 a.m. She called for help on her cell phone. The Independence Volunteer Fire Department removed the victim from her car and the Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad transported her to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax for treatment. Her car was heavily damaged. Tilson charged Simpson with reckless driving.
