This is a special week for volunteer firefighters in not only Galax and the Twin Counties but across the United States.
Fire Prevention Week, being observed with special events Oct. 9-15, was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
This is a good time to thank the men and women who serve on our volunteer fire departments and keep our families and friends and property safe from fire.
They are ready 24/7 when the alarm sounds.
