Do you think the Virginia Carolina Water Authority should go forward with plans to add fluoride to the public water system?

Fluoride is beneficial

I grew up in towns that used fluoride and didn't know it until a dentist told me that fluoride had made my teeth develop much better than people that didn't have fluoridated water. 50 years later, my teeth are still strong and healthy even without practicing the best oral hygene. I attribute that to the use of fluoride in the drinking water of my upbringing. There are harmful things in your water that you don't even know exist such as pesticides from the runoff of farm lands, including tree farms. But that is another subject.

In response to CPO's comments

Spend tax money to inject toxic waste into our water?
Ludicrous!
One very small branch of the CDC (with a grand total of 26 employees including custodians and secretaries) lobbied to have fluoridation included in a list of great health acheivements of last century. This is not the only use of dangerous chronic toxins that the CDC has endorsed and encouraged through the years.
Poor people are those who, in fact, would absorb most of the ill-effects of water fluoridation as they are far less likely to prepare infant formula with fluoride free water (as the ADA and CDC recommends), they are less likely be aware of their overexpoure to fluoride from all sources, and they are the most likely to suffer from dental fluorosis.
Fluoridated water is very likely NOT the primary cause for decreased incidence of dental cavities in the US over the last 1/2 of last century, the data used to support such a claim is very provably incorrect.
Harmful effects of chronic fluoride overexposure are very well documented. Most common among harmful effects is dental fluorosis, which many "experts" claim to be a only minor cosmetic effect, in truth, dental fluorosis is more likely to be only the most visible symptom of a poisoned skeletal system.
Fluoride TOOTHPASTE might be safe, effective and cheap. Water fluoridation is NOT!

YES. Water fluoridation is

YES. Water fluoridation is one of the most effective public health actions of the 20th century. So says the Centers for Disease Control. Poor people, and others without access to dental care, are the greatest beneficiaries. Since fluoridated water became common in the USA, the prevalence of dental cavities has fallen sharply. Over 50 years, little evidence of harmful effects has been produced. The government recently recommended lowering the concantration of fluoride in public water systems, showing that it is listening to the science, not forcing something harmful down the throsts of the people. Fluoridation is safe, effective, and cheap.

fluoride NO, pure water YES

For over 150 years Grayson County citizens have been able to drink pure mountain water. Now the Mayor of Independence and the Town Manager have decided to fluoridate the city water. Why, we don't know. So get ready, my friend, for fluoride tea, fluoride lemonade, fluoride vegetable soup, fluoride beef stew, fluoride oyster stew, fluoride potato soup, fluoride baby formula, fluoride hot chocolate, fluoride coolaide, fluoride bathwater, fluoride lawn watering, fluoride carwash, and fluoride water for cats, dogs, cows and horses. Aren't we lucky to have these two public servants looking out for our best interests? Why don't we just ask them to let us all vote on the issue? In a democracy voting is allowed. Under anarchy, rulers do not allow voting. So under which system are we operating? Are we free to decide for ourselves or are we slaves controlled by rulers?

Say No To Fluoride

As you were growing up , your parents probably told you when you see a skull and crossbones on anything you know its poison and stay away – don't get it on you and for sure don't put it in your mouth. Fluoride has a skull and cross bones on it. It is toxic (also used as rat poison and in insecticides)so why would we want it in the water?

say NO to fluoride

Thanks to the information now available, we know that fluoride has always been a deadly toxin and that dosage cannot be regulated. Fluoride absorbs even more readily through your skin, so showering in fluoridated water, swimming in a county pool, or breathing humidified air will all increase the amount of fluoride you absorb by an unknown amount. Babies cannot drink ANY fluoridated water, so baby formula cannot be made with water that has added fluoride. The only "safe" fluoride is brushed on and spit out; systemically absorbed fluoride has NO dental benefit and is a slow poison for the rest of your body. The people are speaking out, and what they are saying is "DON'T add poison to my water!"

No, we don't want or need

No, we don't want or need flouride in our water. Stand together or we'll be drinking poison.

fluoride is poison

The U.S.Congressional Record, in 1966, records fluoride as a deadly poison. In the EPA list of inorganic contaminants, fluoride is listed between cyanide and lead. Why would anyone put this stuff in public drinking water? A professor in Duke University's Environmental Health Program said, "If you brush your teeth whats the problem,? To fluoridate public drinking water seems overkill." Everyone in Grayson County should speak out loudly on this issue.

Water Flouridation

People who take care of their teeth do not need any more flouride. They get more than what is recommended from the food they eat, the tooth paste they use, the mouth wash they have, etc.. Does anyone actually think that putting flouride in the water is going to save the teeth of the people who don't take care of them? If you don't need to help the first people, and you can't help the latter - Why spend the money to subject everyone to this toxin? We have the threat of terrorist attacks on our plates enough as it is without having to worry about our own people within our own community trying to poison us too. God made the water to supply us with what we need. Are we smarter than God?

Is it necessary?

Fluoridation is not only unnecessary, it is also poses a serious hazard to those in the community who use the water. Municipal water supplies are fluoridated with a toxic compound known as sodium fluoride. Don't confuse this with the fluoride treatment you receive at the dentist which is calcium fluoride (also toxic but not ingested).

To put some perspective on how toxic sodium fluoride is, it ranks between lead and arsenic with lead being slightly less toxic and arsenic being slightly more toxic.

This being said, the EPA considers 1000ppb (parts per billion) of fluoride to be the maximum acceptable contaminant level in water. They consider 15ppb of lead and 10ppb of arsenic to be the maximum acceptable contaminant level. See anything wrong with that by chance? I do.

Chronic doses of fluoride, like arsenic and lead, accumulate in our bodies causing a blockage in the way cells breathe and leads to the malformation of collagen. Cancer, diabetes, thyroid and neurological disorders, hormonal imbalances, heart disease, arthritis and osteoporosis have all been linked to chronic fluoride ingestion.

I think if there is any doubt, leave it out. What harm can it do to leave our water free of a known poison?

Fluoride

The practice of water fluoridation is forced medication upon an entire community. If the Virginia members of the Water Authority vote to fluoridate the water supply, then the town should change its name from Independence to Subjugated.
