Human remains found in Carroll County well

LAMBSBURG – Human remains were discovered Monday in an old well in the Lambsburg community of Carroll County.

Alleghany County, N.C., Sheriff David “Squeak” Edwards said the department received a tip that a body was in the well on isolated Snowbird Lane and the search began last Thursday. A bulldozer and other heavy earth-moving equipment was used.

The remains were discovered about 50 feet below ground. Deputies said the remains had been there no more than two years.

Alleghany was joined in the search by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Surry County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Department and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.

The remains will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke to be identified.
