Local drivers claim wins at Elk Creek Dragway

ELK CREEK – Chris Carpenter of Galax, driving a 1973 Chevy Vega, won the Super Pro-Pro-Line Performance class at Elk Creek Dragway in July 23 racing.
Carpenter posted a speed of 100.99 mph to beat Bill Lewis who drove his dragster to a speed of 129.27 mph.
Robin Bartlett found victory lane in the Footbrake class in a 1992 Ford Mustang, turning 94.63 mph to edge Henry Cox of Flat Top, W.Va., driving a 1975 Ford Mustang that turned 92.94 mph.
