A Grayson County woman escaped injury Thursday morning after her car ran off the left side of U.S. 58, struck a utility pole, went through a fence and ended up in a field. State Trooper Alan Vaughan listed the driver as Debra Parks Phipps. Vaughan said Phipps, who was traveling west, told him that a deer ran out in front of her. Vaughan estimated damage to her car at $5,000. She was charged with reckless driving. The Independence Volunteer Fire Department, Independence Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
