Grayson County doesn’t have any reported rabies cases in 2010, but surrounding counties do, according to the Mount Rogers Health District, which serves Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Washington and Wythe counties and the cities of Bristol and Galax.
Health officials said they want to remind the public that rabies is an ever-present threat in the area and that everyone should be careful to protect the community by getting legally-required rabies vaccinations for their pets.
