Thomas Joseph Collins, 93, of Independence, Va., passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Culpeper Regional Hospital in Culpeper, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Perkins Collins. He was born December 28, 1918 in Independence to the late Kemper Guy Collins and Sally Angus Hampton Collins. He was a Veteran, serving in the Coast Guard, World War 11. He retired as Supervisor-Mechanic with Eastern Airlines.
He is survived by his son and wife, Kemper and Susan Collins of Alexandria, Va.; two grandsons, Ross Irwin and Justin Collins; three granddaughters, Erica Pike and husband, Nick, Jessica Collins and Christina Morrison; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emma and Isabelle; two brothers and spouses, Grayson and Lorene Collins of Independence and Guy and Peggy Collins of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Inez Boyer of Independence; several nieces and nephews also survive.
His funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Independence, with the Rev. Matthew Storie officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.
