GALAX – Two drivers were injured last Wednesday in a head-on collision on Route 89, south of Galax.
State Trooper Jessie Tilson said a 2005 Dodge Stratus, driven by Beulah Jean Hall of East Stuart Drive in Galax, was traveling south about 6:10 p.m.
Tilson said according to witnesses, Hall’s vehicle crossed the centerline several times before it struck a northbound 1999 GMC truck driven by Kyle Billings of Carsonville Road and owned by Roger Roberts of Independence.
Billings was taken to Northern Surry Hospital in Mount Airy, N.C., and later airlifted by medical helicopter to Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital Thursday morning.
Hall was trapped inside her car and was eradicated by the Galax Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters set up a landing zone at Fairview Elementary School where AirCare airlifted Hall to Wake Forest University Medical Center for treatment. She was listed in fair condition Monday.
Tilson said charges were pending in the accident, subject to a DMV medical review on Hall.
