  • Annual haunted hayride planned

    Grayson Highlands State Park will present its 10th annual haunted hayride Oct. 8 in the park’s picnic area, 6:30-10 p.m.
    Participants can take a tractor-drawn hayride on a spooky journey through the park picnic area. Hayride, hot cider and a haunted homestead area will be provided.
    Admission $5 per adult and $3 for kids 10 and younger. Fee to enter the park is $3. For information: (276) 579-7092.

  • Osborne reunion set Oct. 9

    The descendants of Josh, Levi and Johnathan Osborne will hold their annual reunion 1 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Independence Fire Department.

  • Kenny reunion set

    A Kenny reunion will be held Oct. 15 at Great Hope Baptist Church in Woodlawn.
    Activities start at noon. Bring a covered dish.

  • Supper, singing to benefit youth projects

    Grubbs Chapel Baptist Church Youth will host a Spaghetti Supper and Gospel Singing on Oct. 8 at Grubbs Chapel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
    A spaghetti supper, including spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, and drink, will be served from 4 until 6 p.m. The meal will be prepared and served by the youth group and their leaders.
    The gospel singing will be held at 6 p.m. featuring The Front Porch Gospel from Rural Retreat, and Youth Group Singers from Grubbs Chapel.
    Cost for this dinner is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and under.

  • Church hosts children’s program

    Little Wilson United Methodist Church will host a special children’s program 9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 17.
    Children and their friends are invited to a “Galactic Blast,” where they can visit with Galileo. Bible stories, crafts, music and fellowship are part of the lesson.
    All invited.
    Special snack included.   

  • Annual Plummer/Pool reunion to be held

    The annual Plummer/Pool reunion is scheduled for Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Flat Ridge Community Center in Flat Ridge.
    All relatives and friends of the family are welcome to bring a dish and join in for an enjoyable day.
    The Community Center will remain open for the usual Saturday night meal and music following the reunion.

  • Benefit for Wilma Reedy

    Wilma Reedy

    A benefit dinner and silent auction will be held Saturday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. at Grayson Highlands School.
    Proceeds will go to help pay medical expenses for Wilma Reedy, a heart patient who requires numerous tests with no insurance.

  • ‘Family Day’ set

    Volney Baptist Church will host a homecoming, “Family Day” beginning 10:30 a.m. Aug. 28.
    The Director of Crossroads Rescue Mission in Shelby, N.C. Brother Dusty Bracket and Born Again Truck Driving Missionary Brother Ronnie Wright, will preach. Men from the Rescue Mission will be singing. After the service, ladies of the church will serve lunch.

  • Virginia Carolina reunion scheduled

    Virginia Carolina High School will have an Aug. 27 reunion at the Blue Ridge Dinner Theater, about 10 miles south of Jefferson, N.C., near Glendale Springs.
    Hours are 1-5 p.m. The meal will be served by the theater staff and will be prepared by Winner’s Circle Restaurant. Meal includes fried chicken, roast beef, vegetables, dessert and drink. Cost is $23 per person.

    The Jonathan Roberts family reunion will be held July 24 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Bald Rock Methodist Church on Roberts Cove Road in Flat Ridge.
