Citizens helped identify subjects in photos, gave oral history of Fries Mill

By Shaina Stockton

FRIES — Special Collections at Virginia Tech recently presented materials from the Fries Textile Mill Collection at Fries School. The citizens were invited to come and view samples of textiles made at the mill, letters illustrating the role of the mill’s historical purpose in Fries, and photos and blueprints from Fries. Guests were also invited to use oral history stations set up at the event, to collect stories from residents and former mill employees.
