Vaughan captures medalist honors

GALAX -- Four Mountain Empire District teams completed a marathon of matches last week, playing three times at different courses.

In a match Sept. 15 at Blue Ridge Country Club in Galax, the Galax Maroon Tide won first place with a team score of 168. Graham placed second with 170; Grayson County third, 179; and Fort Chiswell fourth, 194.

Jacob Vaughan of Grayson County and Dominic DiGiacoma of Galax were co-medalists, each shooting a 3-over-par 38.

Other Galax players and their scores: Nick Sage 40, Kylie Hill 42; Aaron Osborne 48; Skyler Morgan 48;

Grayson players and their scores: Devin Reeves 41; Lakean Vaught 49; Vincent Benish 51; Nick Miller 52; Jason Halsey 53.

The four teams traveled to Draper Valley Golf for a Sept. 17 match.

Grayson County came up the winner with a team score of 172. Graham finished second, 183; Galax third, 186; and Fort Chiswell fourth, 193.

Vaughan was the medalist, shooting an even par 36.

Other Grayson players: Reeves 42; Vaught 46; V. Benish 48; Miller 51; Halsey 56.

Galax players: Osborne 45; Hill 46; Morgan 48; Ian Isom 52; Jetta Huffman 57.

Grayson County was host for the Sept. 18 match played at New River Country Club in Sparta, N.C.

The Maroon Tide won first place with a team score of 167. Grayson County was second with 173 points while Fort Chiswell was third with 184 points and Graham fourth, 186.

Vaughan and DiGiacomo shared medalist honors, each shooting a 40.

Other Galax players: Sage 41; Osborne 43; Hill 43; Morgan 45; Isom 54.

Blue Devil players: Vaught 43; Halsey 44; Reeves 46; Miller 50; V. Benish 52.

The Blue Devils will travel to Glenrockie Country Club in Abingdon this Thursday.
