A lack of federal funding has created a maintenance backlog of more than $508 million at the Blue Ridge Parkway

You can see it in the unmowed roadsides and fallen branches that remain untouched after a storm; in the time-weathered cabins and attractions along the Blue Ridge Parkway that winds through Virginia and North Carolina. You can probably feel it in the deteriorating state of the road itself.
But what you don’t see while driving down the scenic highway is the mounting cost of those maintenance projects, which have been left undone because of a lack of federal funding.
