A 67-year-old Independence man is undergoing treatment after being bitten by a fox that tested positive for rabies.

Independence Police Chief James Wagoner said the police department received a call at 8:30 p.m. June 6 reporting that a fox had entered Hilltop Home for Adults on Rainbow Circle and was acting strangely.

Wagoner said the fox entered the home through an open door and went upstairs, where it bit a dog.

“The fox was running through the house and crashing into things,” Wagoner described.
