Rutherford wins college tournament in Alabama

A former standout golfer for the Grayson County Blue Devils and now a member of the Catawba College team, Tyler Rutherford, recently won medalist honors in the Full Moon BBQ Invitational held in Calara, Ala.

Rutherford, a sophomore, posted career lows on both days with rounds of 72 and 66 for a 4-under total of 138. He edged Florida Tech golfer Joe Ellis, who shot a 139.

Catawba finished 5th in the eight-team tournament hosted by Montevallo College.

The tournament was played at the 6,745-yard, par-71 Timberline Golf Club.
