VDOT welcomes citizens to district Six-Year plan meeting

BRISTOL—The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) is holding a public meeting in Bristol next week so residents can learn more about transportation projects funded in the current Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP) and to provide comments for transportation improvements in the upcoming SYIP for fiscal years 2015-2020.

This is a meeting for the Bristol District, of which Grayson County is a part of, and will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Holiday Inn and Suites/Bristol Convention Center, 3005 Linden Drive, in Bristol.

Grayson County Board of Supervisors have urged citizens who wanted their road to be on the Six-Year Plan to attend the meeting. “This is a critical meeting for VDOT in our area,” Supervisor Brenda Sutherland said in a board meeting earlier this year. “Please plan to attend and speak about important projects in your respective areas of the district.”

Open house displays and general discussion will occur from 6-7 p.m., and the public comment session will begin at 7 p.m.

Projects include interstate, primary roads, rail, bicycle, pedestrian and public transportation initiatives, with an emphasis on bridge and pavement projects along with those to improve safety and reduce congestion throughout the transportation network.

Representatives from the CTB, VDOT, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and planning district commissions (PDCs) will be at the meetings to discuss their respective projects and programs.

If you cannot attend, information about the meeting will be available at www.virginiadot.org/2013fallmeetings.
