• ‘Wiping Out Stress’ scheduled

    SPARTA, N.C. – The Alleghany Wellness Center, High Country Help Center and Sherry Cahn, executive director of High Country Help, will present “Wiping Out Stress.”
    The event is scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 5:30-7:30 p.m.

  • Annual Pumpkin Festival planned

    The 21st  Annual  Baywood Fall Pumpkin Festival will be held Oct. 2 at Baywood Elementary School in Grayson County, and the festival committee is looking for vendors to sell arts, crafts, baked goods, fruits or vegetables.

    The day will start off with the country ham breakfast 7-9 a.m. at Baywood Elementary School.
     A parade begins at 10 a.m. with an antique tractor pull at 11 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.  

  • Wyatt completes Eagle Scout project

    Cory Wyatt, 18, of Mouth of Wilson built a 16-by9-foot climbing wall at Grayson Highlands School as an Eagle Scout Project.
    Wyatt organized the project, including securing all the materials, planning and coordinating more than a dozen other Scouts and friends and family – a group of volunteers to build the climbing wall.  
    The wall was constructed from five 6-by-6-by -12-foot posts and 11 2-by-10-by-16-foot boards and bolted with 110 8-inch galvanized bolts.

    Americans struggling to cope with high gas and energy costs, increasing food prices and an uncertain national economy are receiving some real financial relief on their prescription drug purchases thanks to their county governments. There is no cost to the county, county taxpayers or consumers to participate.
