  • Chambers earns Top 16 spot in State Am

    BRISTOL – Brad Chambers of Galax played his way into the Top 16 of the State Amateur golf tournament sponsored by the Virginia State Golf Association last week before losing to the #1 player in the state, Keith Decker of Martinsville.
    Chambers shot rounds of 70-74 for a 2-over par 144 to qualify for the 32-player match play that began Thursday.
    In the morning round, Chambers beat Jay Vandeventer of Bristol, playing on his home course, 1-up. Vandeventer plays for the University of Tennessee golf team.

  • Cox wins Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour championship

    Galax Maroon Tide golfer Brock Cox won the 16-18 age group of the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour championship last Tuesday.
    After the two-day tournament was delayed two hours by rain, Cox and the other golfers finished the event.
    Cox shot rounds of 73-74 for a 36-hole total of 147.
    Brandon White of Richlands and Kris Goad of Hillsville tied for second, three strokes back at 150.
    White was selected as the Player of the Year for accumulating the most points throughout the season. Goad was also named to the All-Star team.

  • Camp Dickenson tourney set

    The 15th annual Camp Dickenson Golf Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 4 at Draper Valley Golf Club.
    A shotgun start is set for 1 p.m.
    The cost is $280 per team which includes green and cart fees and a cookout lunch featuring Pulaski Baseball BBQ.
    The top three teams in the four-man captain’s choice tourney will receive prizes.
    Proceeds will benefit Camp Dickenson, which is located near Fries.

  • Father and son team win Blue Ridge Member-Member

    GALAX – The father-son team of Dennis and Kenny Hiatt won the Member/Member, Member/Guest golf tournament held at Blue Ridge Country Club July 17-18.
    The team shot a 3-under 67 on Saturday and blistered the course with an 8-under 62 on Sunday for a 129 total.
    Second went to another Hiatt – Brad – and his teammate, Lynn Conners, who shot a 130. Brock Cox and Dustin Thompson teamed to win third place with a 132.

  • TCRH announces Golf Classic winners

    GALAX -- The 16th annual Twin County Regional Healthcare Foundation Golf Classic was held recently at Blue Ridge Country Club in Galax, with 155 golfers supporting the annual fundraising tournament.

    The tournament included three flights per round. The championship flight top honors for the morning round went to the Chas. Lunsford Sons & Associates team of Wally Nelson, Doug Brannock, Brad Dillon and Doug Morgan, at 18 under par.
