  • Rutherford leads Blue Devils over Carroll in golf match

     Tyler Rutherford shot a 2-over-par 37 last Wednesday to lead  Grayson County to a victory over Carroll County in a golf match played at Blue Ridge Country Club in Galax.

  • Blue Devils entertain Carroll County Friday night

     The Grayson County Blue Devils will entertain their rivals from Carroll County this Friday night at Bill Strong Field in Independence at 7:30 p.m.

    The Blue Devils will try to get back on the winning track after suffering their first loss of the season last Friday to a huge Glenvar team, 27-7. They have won games over Alleghany, Chilhowie and Rural Retreat.

    Carroll County is 2-2 on the season after a 50-13 victory over Southwest District foe Tazewell last Friday night.

  • Grayson J.V. team claims second place

      The Grayson County JV team played in the Northwood JV volleyball tournament in Saltville on Sept. 11 and brought home the runner-up trophy.

    Stats and scores from the games included:

    • Game 1 vs. Chilhowie

    Set 1: Grayson County (GC) 25 - Chilhowie (C) 12

    Set 2: GC 13 - C 25

    Set 3: GC 16 - C 14

    Autumn Halsey had 12 service points. Emily Barrett had 6 service points and Taylor Cannaday had 4 service points.

  • Highlanders contain Blue Devils

    SALEM –– The Glenvar Highlanders wasted no time showing Grayson County who was boss, beating the Blue Devils 27-7 on their home turf.
    Glenvar led 20-0 at halftime, thanks to a dominant defensive performance. The Blue Devils were held to 35 yards of total offense and negative six on the ground at the half.
    “I believe in a physical style of play. I don’t know if we are more physical than anyone else, but that’s what we try to do,” Highlanders coach Kevin Clifford said.
    They succeeded mightily on Friday.

  • Blue Devils lose volleyball matches

    Grayson County dropped three games to Fort Chiswell last Tuesday night in a Mountain Empire District volleyball match.
    All three matches were close with the Pioneers winning 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.
    Gratsib players  had impressive stats. Brandi Goad had 23 assists and eight service points, Madison McCormick 14 assists and five service points, Becca Johnson added four service points, one ace and two blocks and Erin Barrett finished with 13 service points and three aces.

  • Blue Devil football practice opens

    Football practice officially opened for the Grayson County Blue Devils Monday at Bill Strong Field. Coach Brett McPherson said 55 players turned out for the varsity and junior varsity teams.
    The Blue Devils have a scrimmage scheduled for Saturday, Aug.14 at home and will play Floyd County at home Aug. 20 in a benefit game.
    The season opens Aug. 27 at home against the Alleghany Trojans.

  • Golf practice begins Aug. 2

    Anyone planning to play golf for the Grayson County Blue Devils this season is asked to attend the first practice on Monday, Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. at New River Country Club at Twin Oaks.
    All players must bring their completed physical forms.
    Coach James Davis said anyone needing a ride to meet at the high school parking lot at 8:30 a.m. for a bus ride to the course.
