The Rack Reaper team, names not in order, Worth Carrico, Clay Anders, Jordan Adams, John Bilbrey, James Williams and Jarrien Goins, race their outhouse down Independence’s Main Street during the 2013 Mountain Foliage Festival. The team went on to capture first place in the festival’s Grand Privy Race, an honor the group has achieved for five straight years. Thousands are expected to descend on Independence Oct. 11, many to see if Rack Reaper can get de-throned from its top outhouse squad spot. Registration to compete in the race and other festival events is going on now.
Mountain Foliage Festival registration now open

INDEPENDENCE – Teams are already starting to form to vie for the $600 cash prize in the Grand Privy Race, the premier event in the 32nd annual Mountain Foliage Festival set for Oct. 11. There should be many on hand to cheer the outhouse racers on -- the festival is among downtown Independence’s largest events of the year and drew 3,000 people last year on what was a rainy day -- so this year the crowds will likely be even bigger.
